🗑️ Waste Management Update: Advocating for Go Home Lake
Your GHLCOA Board has been actively communicating with Township and District representatives to advocate for a more accessible and effective garbage disposal solution for our lake community.
Over the past few months, we have:
- Launched a coordinated letter-writing campaign in support of Councillor Steve Predko’s motion urging the District to explore a pilot project for remote, managed waste disposal sites.
- Engaged directly with District Council and Committee members to emphasize the need for year-round, 24/7 access alternatives that serve seasonal and remote residents more effectively.
- Monitored the District’s Engineering & Public Works Committee discussions, where the motion to study remote managed sites at Go Home Lake and 12 Mile Bay received broad initial support.
Unfortunately, the District has since chosen to roll this review into its broader Solid Waste Master Plan, now scheduled for completion in June 2026.
While we share members’ frustration with the pace of progress, rest assured that GHLCOA continues to represent your voices and push for solutions that balance environmental responsibility, accessibility, and practicality.
We will:
- Continue lobbying the District and maintaining communication with Chair Jeff Lehman and Commissioner James Steele.
- Leverage findings from other pilot programs, such as Guelph’s, to build evidence for a remote-access model that could work for Go Home Lake.
- Keep members informed as new information becomes available. Your engagement matters — every letter, comment, and show of support strengthens our collective voice.
🩵 This is our community, and while your GHLCOA Board is doing all we can as dedicated volunteers, we aren’t experts in navigating municipal systems. We encourage everyone who feels passionate about this issue to stay informed, subscribe to updates, attend council meetings, and continue sending letters—your participation truly makes a difference.
Thank you for your continued advocacy and patience as we work toward a long-term, common-sense waste management solution for our community.
